Proserpine River Fishway (2009 - )

Main proponent:     WCL
Cash funding:   Whitsunday Regional Council Biodiversity Levy
Other proponents:   Dept Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI and F)
In kind funding:   DPI and F, Whitsunday Regional Council

Project outline:

A previous Fishway project identified a fish passage barrier on the Proserpine River near the Myrtle Creek junction. A significant fall in bed height is a result of the combination of historic gravel extraction, a timber bridge (removed in 2008) and a concrete causeway. Due to the this section of both waterways being used for irrigation of surrounding sugarcane, engineering works may have to be carried out before installation of the sand weir in 2010.

Project achievements and outcomes:

Fishway design developed
Engineering works planned (as at July 2009)
