Jungle Perch Project (2009 - 2009)

Main proponent:     WCL
Cash funding:   Whitsunday Regional Council Biodiversity Levy
Other proponents:   Dept Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI and F)
In kind funding:   DPI and F, Whitsunday Regional Council

Project outline:

Surveys for the locally rare Jungle Perch will be conducted. If significant enough numbers are found, individual fish will be sent to Brisbane as part of a captive breeding program by the Dept of Primary Industries and Fisheries. The need for fish habitat rehabilitative works will also be assessed. General community awareness of fish habitat issues was raised through an informative stand at Show Whitsunday.
