Main proponent:     WCL
Cash funding:   Qld Government Community Natural Resource Awareness Grant
Other proponents:   Proserpine State School
In kind funding:   WCL, Whitsunday Shire Council

Project outline:

The goal of this project was to increase community awareness of the Whitsunday Catchment by producing models, maps and posters of the catchment and its features. Students obtained information regarding the catchment from Whitsunday Catchment Landcare staff, teachers from the Proserpine State School and their own research. The model of the Whitsunday Catchment and the model of the Peter Faust Dam (top of the Proserpine River Catchment) were constructed with papier-mch in a 3D representation of the catchment's geographical features. These were displayed at the local agricultural show then displayed in the Whitsunday Shire Council chambers.

Project achievements and outcomes:

  • Increased knowledge of the Whitsunday catchment by primary school students.
  • Creation of a model of the catchment for display purposes.
