Other proponents:
In kind funding:   Whitsunday Regional Council, Cannonvale State School

Project outline:

The goal of this project was to involve youth to raise awareness of sustainable natural resource management in the Whitsunday Catchment. Year 6 and 7 students from Cannonvale State School created designs to promote sustainable use of resources and protection of the Whitsunday environment; taking into consideration what people do on land and on water as well as the flow on effects. Students worked during and after school hours to develop artwork for posters to be used at public events. Anti-litter messages were a common theme as well as reducing water pollution and protection of wetlands and other aquatic habitats.

Project achievements and outcomes:

  • Poster exhibitions held at Whitsunday Boat Show and a local shopping centre.
  • 1200 canvas bags printed with an anti-litter message and provided to school students and the public.

Design by year 6 and 7 students, printed onto canvas bags to promote protection of our waterways.
